Iraq-Yazids

An orphanage in Mosul is caring for children of the war, some of which lost their entire families. Some were kidnapped from their parents and raised by ISIS families. Many of them are abandoned children born in the conflict to ISIS fighters and Yazidi women or girls that they raped. The Yazidi religion is conservative and many women that became pregnant with ISIS fighters either had to have an abortion or give up their babies as soon as they were born if they wanted to go home. Many of the womens lives were threatened if they were to come home with a child born in captivity. Some children have been reunited with their parents but are terrified of them. They were taken when they were so young that their parents have become strangers. Sukaina Ali Younis, the found of the orphanage, says its an issue that is going to last for 20 years.
